Leeds United have been installed second favourites to sign Blackburn Rovers defender Charlie Mulgrew, according to bookmakers.

Bet Victor priced the Yorkshire giants at 4/1 on Saturday morning to land the Scotland international and Celtic icon, 31, before the transfer window shuts this month.

Leeds are behind only Sheffield Wednesday (2/1) in the betting race for Mulgrew, while his hometown club are 6/1 and Bristol City are 8/1.

Celtic academy product Mulgrew moved to Ewood Park 12 months ago after a six-year spell at his boyhood club had followed spells at Wolves, Southend and Aberdeen.

At Celtic, the centre-back made 209 appearances and had an excellent scoring record, netting 29 goals and supplying a further 34 assists.

Mulgrew featured in 30 matches in all competitions for Rovers last season, scoring three goals.

He has started both of the third-tier outfit's matches in the new campaign.

Rovers, who were relegated to League One on the final day of last season, sold goalkeeper Jason Steele to Leeds' promotion rivals Middlesbrough last month.
