Toumani Diagouraga is on the verge of agreeing a deal with Scunthorpe United, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the midfield enforcer is closing in on a move to the League One outfit days after severing his ties with Leeds.

Hay explained that Diagouraga, 30, is training with Scunthorpe with a view to a transfer to the club.

Diagouraga cancelled his contract with Leeds by mutual consent at the end of last month even though he was tied to the club until next summer.

The Frenchman, who signed from Brentford in January 2016, was a key figure in the Leeds side under ex-boss Steve Evans, scoring two goals in 19 games in the second half of 2015-16 but was frozen out of the first-team picture at Elland Road by Garry Monk.

The defensive midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town and was hoping for a fresh start under new Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen.

But he was not handed a squad number for the new season and the two parties agreed to cancel his contract early by mutual consent to allow him free agent status and the chance to find a new club.
