Leeds were paid £600,000 by Yorkshire rivals Barnsley for Alex Mowatt in the January window, according to a report.

The fee was not publicly disclosed by either club when the Elland Road academy graduate made the move to the Tykes four days before the end of the window.

But the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that the six-figure sum agreed for the midfielder was £600,000.

Mowatt, who made 125 appearances for his boyhood club, was sold by Leeds at a time when he had entered the final six months of his contract and was not a regular in the team.

He had not made a start in the league since October when he was sold, with most of his appearances this season coming as a substitute.

The 21-year-old playmaker made his Barnsley debut on Tuesday night, playing 42 minutes of their 3-1 league defeat against Wolves at Oakwell.

Mowatt was one of three midfielders to leave Elland Road in the January window, with Toumani Diagouraga and Luke Murphy completing loan moves to Ipswich and Burton respectively.

Leeds brought in two new players in wing duo Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza, who have both joined on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
