Leeds set for seven-figure swoop for goal-a-game hitman ripping up the top flight – report
Leeds are planning a double raid on Championship rivals Aston Villa, according to a report. The Sun, in Tuesday's print edition, claim that Thomas Christiansen is plotting a £7million double deal for striker Ross McCormack and enforcer Tommy Elphick. McCormack is currently on loan at Melbourne City but is due back before the end of the transfer window. He is rated at £4.5million with Elphick rated at £2.5million. McCormack joined Melbourne City after falling out with manager Steve Bruce and it seems unlikely that he has a first-team future in the midlands. The story from The Sun was posted by a Leeds fan, @markrikko, on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday morning.
Football Insider verdict:
McCormack has hit the ground running in Australia with 14 goals in 16 A-League games. But the league is a much lower level than the Championship and £4.5m is a lot for a 31-year-old with reported attitude issues. Leeds know him very well though after McCormack scored 58 goals in 157 games for the club when he played for them between 2010 and 2014. It would be a short-term move though. McCormack might have the goals to fire Leeds towards the Premier League but he wouldn't be any help if they got promoted to the top flight. There are better players out there for that sort of money – which is a big sum to Leeds.
