Leeds United goalkeeper Will Huffer is likely to have played his last match for the club after suffering a serious wrist injury, Football Insider understands.

The home-grown star, 21, is out of contract in the summer after United activated an option in May of last year to extend his expiring deal by a further 12 months.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Huffer is out for the long-term with his wrist problem and he is unlikely to be fully fit for months.

The youngster was already down the pecking order at United after the signings of three keepers in the last 15 months - Kiko Casilla, Illan Meslier and January arrival Elia Caprile.

Casilla returned to Spain before the UK lockdown after being hit with an eight-match ban for racism.

This paved the way for Meslier, who is on a season-long loan from Lorient, to take over as the number one and he has started Leeds' last two Championship matches.

Caprile, 18, got the nod to be on the bench for those victories against Hull City and Huddersfield Town ahead of Kamil Miazek.

Like Huffer, Miazek, 23, has been used by the Under-23s this season and struggled to force his way into the senior set-up.

The United academy product has made just a single senior appearance for the club, which came last season, when he also had a spell on loan at Barnet.

He is unlikely to force his way back into Marcelo Bielsa's thinking even if he does recover in time to feature again when this campaign eventually resumes.
