Leeds United transfer news: Raphinha is 'asking to leave' after 'oh my God' update

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Raphinha will ask to leave Leeds United if Barcelona contnue to persue him.

That's according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazil international's future.

As reported by Spanish publication Sport on Tuesday (29 March), Barca are readying a second offer worth an initial £33.9million (€40million) for the 25-year-old.

Leeds United

It is claimed a further £8.5million (€10million) could be included in add-ons with the club's initial offer of £29.6million (€35million) rebuffed.

The Catalan giants reportedly will not improve on their offer, knowing that Raphinha has a £21.2million (€25million) release clause if Leeds are relegated.

McAvennie insits the winger will be "asking questions" about leaving if another bid arrives.

"Leeds or Barcelona? I mean, oh my god, no brainer," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Just look at Aubameyang, he's gone over there and he's worked wonders. Raphinha will want a bit of that.

"I don't think he's set the world on fire this season to be honest with you.

"He's a talented boy but have we seen enough for Barcelona to get him?

"I'm not sure but I know one thing for sure, he will be asking to leave if Barcelona do want him.

"Fighting relegation with Leeds or playing in the Champions League with Barcelona?

"That's an easy one for me so if that bid comes in, he wants that conversation."

Leeds United

Raphinha has scored 15 goals and contributed 12 assists in 59 appearances for the Whites.

Nine of those goals came in the Premier League this season.
