Some Leeds United senior stars raised their eyebrows at Marcelo Bielsa carrying on as normal before the lockdown of Thorp Arch, Football Insider understands.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that there was some surprise among the squad that Bielsa had continued to run intensive sessions at Thorp Arch following the suspension of the EFL last Friday.

The majority of leading clubs, not least runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool, had followed the lead of Arsenal by shutting their headquarters and giving their players individual training programmes to follow from home.

Bielsa, along with the likes of Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, initially decided against this and continued training his full squad.

The demanding Argentine also arranged a full week of training this week, albeit with some days off included.

But the unique circumstances of the coronavirus forced Leeds chiefs into action and training at Thorp Arch was cancelled yesterday.

First-team players have been told they must stay away from the facility and comply with strict fitness plans at home.

Leeds' next game is due to be against Blackburn Rovers on 3 April, although that match seems highly unlikely to go ahead.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are top of the Championship, seven points clear of third-placed Fulham with nine games to go.
