Leeds United will step up their interest in Coventry City starlet Sam McCallum during the international break, Football Insider understands.

The left-back, 19, is on the radar of United and multiple other Premier League and leading Championship clubs following his emergence at the League One high flyers over the last six months.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club are lining up transfer missions to assess the versatile full-back over the coming months.

The League One programme does not pause for the international break and United's scouts are set to build up their dossier on one of the Football's League brightest young talents.

There is plenty of competition for McCallum.

Football Insider revealed last month that Aston Villa are closely monitoring the teenager, while there is also interest in him from West Brom, Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest.

The battle for McCallum comes after he broke into the Coventry team at the end of last season, following his arrival in the summer of 2018 from non-league Hearn Bay.

He is predominantly a left-back but has already showed during his nascent career that he can slot in on the right side of the defence.

McCallum has made seven appearances this season, including four league starts, for Mark Robins' side.

He has been on the bench for the last two games after missing the 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon two-and-a-half weeks ago, but may be recalled to the starting XI following the weekend 4-0 hammering by Rotherham.

Coventry are next in action in the Football League trophy against Forest Green tomorrow, and then host Tranmere Rovers in the league on Sunday.
