Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino have become a dream team at Tottenham, with Levy pulling the strings and Pochettino attracting and managing to keep hold of some of the best young players in Europe.

However, between them they could be on the brink of making a huge mistake.

Reo Griffiths, the 17-year-old striker, who scored four goals and made another three in Tottenham's Under-18 side 9-0 win against Arsenal in April, could be leaving Spurs in the summer.

Griffiths, who has yet to sign his first professional contract and who could walk away for free has been linked with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

And on Wednesday he sent a tweet which had fans fearing the worst.

However, as it turned out, Griffiths was just teasing the fans – he's part of the Under-19 squad playing in Germany tomorrow.

However, the sheer volume of fans that responded to the message shows what the fans think of him at Tottenham.

And he still hasn't signed a contract with Spurs.

If he does end up going to the Bundlesiga it will be hard to pinpoint what went wrong.

Griffiths has a way to go before he's the finished article but he's scored 33 goals this season and his four against Arsenal marked him out as a star of the future.

Will RB Leipzig promise to fast-track him through to the first-team and is that something that Pochettino can't do?

Will they offer him more money than Levy is prepared to part with for his first contract?

If so, that's a very dangerous game to play, for a player who could go on to be worth tens of millions.

It might be too early to make proclamations like that, but he has proved he's a natural goal-scorer and if he can do it at a higher level, goals don't come cheap.

On the face of it Griffiths is the perfect Poch and perfect Spurs player.

He's young, talented and full of confidence.

Levy and Pochettino must go all-out to ensure that the next tweet he sends about Germany isn't one about him joining RB Leipzig.
