Gary Lineker took a jab at Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Twitter and fans are not happy with the Match of the Day pundit.

Carragher was suspended from his job on Sky Sports after footage of him spitting on a 14-year-old girl emerged.

Carragher was being goaded by the driver, the girl's dad, but she took the brunt of his anger as he spat towards the car.

Carragher has apologised to the family involved and to everyone else on Sky Sports news but it wasn't enough to stop him getting suspended.

And Lineker decided it was time for some mischief on Twitter, when he posted the message, "Seems Carragher can't do it on a cold, damp Monday night at Stoke."

The joke is in reference to the infamous Stoke jibe normally aimed at big-money foreign players, but Lineker adapted it and Liverpool fans aren't happy.

One Liverpool fan said it was a low blow, while another said that he was gunning for a Twitter war.

Here are the best reactions from disgruntled Liverpool supporters, who didn't see the funny side of Lineker's comment:

To be fair to Lineker, he did follow this up with another tweets, but not before getting admonished by Geoff Shreeve.
