Chelsea's remarkable winning run came to an end against Tottenham on Wednesday night - and Liverpool fans took to Twitter to rejoice.

The Merseyside club's 2-2 draw at Sunderland on Monday had handed Chelsea the opportunity to pull eight points clear at White Hart Lane.

But Spurs secured a memorable triumph against the Premier League leaders with a 2-0 win secured by two headers from man-of-the-moment Dele Alli.

The result has blown the title race wide open and given Liverpool a helping hand in their bid to win their first league trophy since 1990.

Supporters of the Merseyside giants paid tribute to Spurs for doing them a favour while also taking great delight in Chelsea losing.

However, some bemoaned the fact that Liverpool would have narrowed the gap on Chelsea to three points if they had beaten Sunderland at the start of the week.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The result at White Hart Lane means Chelsea's league winning sequence has finished at 13 matches and means they have ended the festive period five points clear of Liverpool in second.

Tottenham have leapfrogged Arsenal and Manchester City to be placed third in the table, where they are seven points adrift of their bitter London rivals in first.
