Liverpool fans have reacted with surprise on Twitter after a report suggested that Daniel Sturridge could leave the club in January.

The former Manchester City striker has fallen out of favour on Merseyside, with manager Jurgen Klopp opting to use Roberto Firmino as his attacking talisman on a more regular basis.

The England international has failed to score a Premier League goal this season after making just three starts for Liverpool, with another three coming as a substitute.

Fans are shocked on Twitter that Sturridge could be set to end his three-year stay with the Merseyside giants, while many have claimed that the Premier League trio are below his standard.

Here are a selection of their tweets:

Last season, the 22-time England international made just 19 starts for Liverpool in all competitions and was replaced in 11 of those, as the striker failed to overcome a persistent groin injury before succumbing to knee and hamstring problems.

Now back to fitness, Sturridge is finding it difficult to become a first-team regular and could be forced to look at other avenues.

The Birmingham-born forward has made just two appearances shy of a century of games for Liverpool, scoring 56 goals and adding another 20 in assists.
