Liverpool have been named as the biggest selling club in Europe after receiving more money through transfer fees than any other side over the past six years, a study has revealed.

CIES Football Observatory carried out the research, which names the Reds on the top of the selling table, with a massive £379million made from transfer fees alone, £10million more than any other club.

The Merseyside club tower over Tottenham, who are seventh in Europe and second from the Premier League and have received £306million in that time.

Chelsea also breach Europe's top ten, but it must be remembered that a lot of the money has gone straight back into investing in other players.

This may not come as light-reading for Liverpool fans, who have just one League Cup to their name since 2010 and have lost the likes of Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Raheem Sterling.

The top four behind leaders Liverpool consist of Valencia, Juventus, Benfica and Porto, with the latter two Portuguese clubs making a huge turnover, after not investing too much in new players.

The likes of Arsenal and Manchester United do not fare too badly in the table, with the Gunners earning £187million from their sales, as they have recently debunked their tag as a 'selling club' while Manchester United have earned £182million from their players heading elsewhere. They sit 28th and 29th respectively.
