Paul Robinson has backed Harvey Elliott to develop into "a world-class player" after the teenager scored his first Liverpool goal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 18-year-old's potential is "frightening" and claimed he is "only going to get better."

Elliott scored on his return from injury in a 3-1 win over Cardiff City on Sunday.

The attacking midfielder had been sidelined with an ankle injury since Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Leeds United in mid-September.

Speaking to club media (6 February), Elliott revealed it was "a dream come true" to mark his injury return with his first goal for the club.

As quoted by Sky Sports (6 February), Jurgen Klopp hailed Elliott's mentality in his post-match press conference.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his reaction to the youngsters performance, Robinson said: "What a top player.

"To see him come back from such a long lay-off and get his goal was amazing. He is going to be a world-class player. He fits into that Liverpool side perfectly.

"They have been short in that midfield area so having him back will be like a new signing.

"At his age, with the ability and talent he has got, it's frightening. He is only going to get better."

Speaking after the win, Klopp said: "Probably his biggest talent is how ready mentally he is out there.

"He is a kid, yes, but on the pitch not so much."
