Liverpool have pulled the plug on rising star Herbie Kane's exit as they have planned an imminent first-team role for him, Football Insider can reveal.

The goalscoring midfielder has been the subject of strong interest from Rangers and English lower league clubs this summer after his dazzling spell at Doncaster Rovers last season.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club have told Kane he will be staying beyond the transfer deadline next week.

The Champions League holders believe the 20-year-old has a bright future at Anfield and are planning to phase him into the first-team squad, initially through the League Cup.

Football Insider revealed last month that the Glasgow giants have made an approach to take the 20-year-old on loan this season, while there has also been interest from Swansea City and Hull City as well as multiple League One and League Two clubs.

Kane was not selected for Liverpool's pre-season tour of America but he has impressed the club's coaching staff behind the scenes and could now be set for his first-team bow.

The midfielder is in demand after shining for League One outfit Doncaster Rovers last season, where he started 39 league matches among 49 appearances in all competitions.

England youth international Kane caught the eye by directly contributing to 17 goals from midfield, made up of seven goals and 10 assists.
