Man City are not expected to be alone in the race to sign Michael Kayoed with a number of clubs across Europe keeping tabs on the Brentford star.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 21-year-old's performances in the Premier League have highlighted his talent.

Since making the permanent switch to the Gtech Community Stadium in the summer, Kayode has made 26 appearances under Keith Andrews and become a crucial player.

Alongside the likes of Tottenham and Juventus who have been linked, Liverpool have been tipped to make a move for the right-back following Conor Bradley's injury.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 12 January that Liverpool want a new right-back after Bradley was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Liverpool tipped to rival Man City in Michael Kayode race

Brown told Football Insider on 13 January that Man City want to sign Kayode as a long-term solution to their ongoing struggles at right-back.

However, Brentford are hopeful of keeping hold of the Italy Under-21 international and will demand a significant fee to sell him, both in January and in the summer.

"City will keep an eye on him and his progress," Brown told Football Insider.

"It might be something they look to do in the summer if he continues to impress, but they're not going to be the only team interested in him.

"Whenever there's somebody performing at a high level in the Premier League, there's going to be interest from other clubs across Europe.

"He's got that Premier League experience behind him now where he's proving he can perform, and in a position where a lot of clubs will be looking.

"Liverpool could do with a player like that in their current situation, he's certainly one who would fit the bill if he was to become available.

"They'd like to bring in a new right-back, so maybe that's an option, but as I said before a lot will depend on Brentford and they're not going to be willing to let him go."

Man City set sights on alternatives to Kayode

Brown told Football Insider in September that Pep Guardiola wants to sign a right-back as a priority, with Matheus Nunes currently filling in there.

Newcastle United star Tino Livramento has been heavily linked with making the switch to the Etihad thanks to his impressive performances for the Magpies.

However, Newcastle remain extremely reluctant to lose Livramento given his crucial role in Eddie Howe’s plans for the upcoming season.

Brown told Football Insider in July that Man City scouts watched Livramento at the Under-21s Euros where he played a key role in England’s success.

Since then, he has gone from strength to strength in the Premier League, and City's interest remains strong despite some lingering injury concerns.
