Liverpool v Everton: Pundit 'astounded' as Jordan Pickford controversy analysed
Paul Robinson has applauded Everton and their game management after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp complained about Jordan Pickford's time wasting.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said Frank Lampard's side had to "disrupt the flow of the game" against a superior side on Sunday.
Liverpool beat the Toffees 2-0 in a well contested Merseyside derby at Anfield.
As quoted by Eurosport (25 April), Klopp claimed Everton's Jordan Pickford prevented his side from gaining a rhythm in the match by time wasting.
He said the England number one was taking "five minutes" each time he had the ball.
Robinson claim it is "astounding" how little the ball is actually in play.
"It is always going to be part of the game," he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.
"When you look at the stats that show how long the ball is in play, it is astounding.
"Everton had a game plan and time wasting was no doubt part of it. It is a huge part of the game. The referees are supposed to add it on but they never add enough time on.
"It is a difficult subject but Everton executed their game plan very well. They are miles behind Liverpool so they have to find a way to win. When you know you are punching above your weight you have to find a way. If that involves disrupting the flow of the game, you have to find a way. The result is most important."
