Louis Van Gaal has revealed that he will sanction a major Manchester United clear-out every summer to "stimulate" his squad.
The Dutchman has suggested that it is the recent high-profile departures from Old Trafford that have been key to his side's rise.
Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria, Victor Valdes and Radamel Falcao were all culled by Van Gaal during the summer as he overhauled his squad.
''I rotate more now because I can," the manager explained. "Last year in my opinion I didn't have the balance. I have let 20 or 25 players go. So it's a new team.''
The Dutchman has warned that his policy won't change and more stars will leave in the future.
''Every season I shall do that-because I think we need that new stimulus," he explained.
United top the Premier League table for the first time in Van Gaal's reign following a 3-0 win over Sunderland at the weekend.
Van Gaal explained that his players must all be pulling in the same direction, while also suggesting that those departed were perhaps disrupting his squad's improvement.
''They have to build a structure in the dressing room and that's really important. They have to accept that structure. The manager has influence, but the players much more."
