Liverpool will not sell Luis Diaz to Man City in this transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed this particular transfer rumour was a “non-starter” due to the clubs involved.

The possibility of the Liverpool winger moving to the Etihad is nothing more than “wild speculation,” as the two rivals are unlikely to deal with each other.

Both clubs will be looking to battle it out in a bid to finish the season as Premier League champions, and there is no possibility of Liverpool aiding them by selling Diaz to Pep Guardiola’s side.

The situation was potentially a move from Diaz’s agent to help manoeuvre a new Liverpool deal or gain interest from other clubs.

Diaz is expected to be available for Arne Slot ahead of Liverpool’s season opener against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Liverpool are open to selling Luis Diaz, but not to Man City

Even though a deal for Diaz to join Man City is off the table, that doesn’t mean the 27-year-old will still be at Anfield after the transfer deadline.

The Reds are open to a sale if their £50million price tag is met, but it remains to be seen if any clubs are willing to pay that price.

Liverpool have been working hard throughout the summer to try and sign a left-sided forward and have held talks over a player-exchange deal involving Anthony Gordon.

Gordon has been Liverpool’s top target throughout the transfer window, but the Magpies are keen to retain the England international.
