Peterborough have confirmed that there is major interest in their striker Jack Marriott after it was reported that Leeds United were in the hut to sign the goal machine in the coming months.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Leeds could make a bid for the 23-year-old in the summer as they hunt down a new centre-forward.

Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday were also said to be interested in making an offer for Marriott, who has been in stunning form for Peterborough this season by scoring 32 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions and is reportedly valued at £5million by the Posh.

On Saturday, the League One club confirmed that Marriott had been left out of the starting 11 to play Portsmouth at Fratton Park due to the amount of interest in him.

Marriott was named on the bench, but the Posh's official Twitter account announced that the club's manager Steve Evans, formerly of Leeds, felt it was right to omit him from the starting line-up.

This update by Peterborough means that Leeds director of football Victor Orta must strike as soon as possible for the centre-forward, who was reportedly the subject of a rejected £4million bid in January.

Premier League clubs may also be keeping their eye on the former Luton star, who has been one of the most prolific players in England's Football League this season.
