Erling Haaland was branded "stupid" and "ridiculous" for one thing he did as Man City were beaten by PSG in the Champions League, by Danny Mills.

After a goalless first half, Jack Grealish and Haaland both got on the scoresheet to put Pep Guardiola's side into a 2-0 lead shortly after the break.

Mills meanwhile, was also unimpressed with the striker for committing a foul on opposition goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in stoppage time as Man City chased an equaliser with the score at 3-2.

Speaking about the incident on Sky Sports Soccer Special (22 January, 9:51pm), the former England international said: "[Ilkay] Gundogan fires it in, oh it's a foul on the goalkeeper. What? Why? Stupid, ridiculous. Donnarumma's six foot six, he flaps at it a little bit, he palms it out rather than punches it.

"It's Erling Haaland just pulling him back, unnecessary really. It's soft but you know what it's like in this day and age, you touch the goalkeeper with your arms you're gonna get a foul, and what have we got?

"A minute left, PSG will run the clock down."

Erling Haaland and Man City had night to forget at PSG

Football Insider Verdict

This is not a night that Haaland or anyone else connected with the club are going to remember at all fondly.

Having collapsed so quickly and decisively from such a commanding position, Man City must now beat Club Brugge next week if they are to make it out of the Champions League group stages.

Of course Haaland did deliver a reminder of why the club have just given him a bumper new contract with yet another predatory goal in Paris.

Moments such as this though did not help his side and are not the sort of errors you would usually expect to see him from.

Man City will therefore be keen for the striker to cut those incidents out of his game once more if they are to get the very best out of him.

Considering how good he can be that will no doubt be vital to any hopes they have of turning this situation around.
