Paul Robinson has suggested Man City manager Pep Guardiola is already planning for the potential exit of Ilkay Gundogan.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Gundogan's exit would be "felt in a similar way" to David Silva's and Sergio Aguero's.

Gundogan, 32, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad.

The Germany international will be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Gundogan's future, Robinson said: "Discussions will have gone on.

"For Pep Guardiola, it is about evolution and bringing in new players.

"Gundogan would be a huge miss for them if he left. You see his quality every week. He influences a game whether it be from the start or off the bench. His ability is there for all to see.

"His loss will be felt in a similar way to Sergio Aguero and David Silva. At the time, you wondered how they would ever replace those players, but they did. Pep will have a contingency plan in place."

Gundogan has been a regular starter for City this season.

He has contributed two goals and one assist in 17 appearances this season.
