Man City fans slaughter Phil Foden after what he did vs Bournemouth

Manchester City fans didn't hold back at Phil Foden despite edging their way into the FA Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

Starting the game after an international break to forget with England – in which he was publicly slammed by Thomas Tuchel for his performance against Albania – Foden once again failed to impress for City.

Foden's England displays against both Albania and Latvia weren't met warmly by the Three Lions faithful, and despite being backed to improve by pundits and, most importantly, Pep Guardiola, he is yet to do so.

Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Foden's current slump of form is nothing more than a blip and he'll soon be back to his best for Man City, but with every passing game, that looks less and less likely.

Given the chance of a clean slate in Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final tie at the Vitality Stadium, Guardiola soon had to bring on Nico O'Reilly and Omar Marmoush, to make the difference for City ahead of Foden.

Given a start on the left flank and moved into the number 10 role after the half-time break, Foden's eventual impact in City's 2-1 win was minimal, with O'Reilly coming off the bench to record two assists.

The first of these – for Erling Haaland's 49th-minute equaliser – came a matter of seconds after Foden had glided forward with the ball at his feet, skipping beyond several defenders on his way into the box.

With sight of goal and space to let fly, Foden did so, but his left-footed finish was a simple one for Kepa Arrizabalaga to save, rendering all that hard work useless as the Bournemouth keeper easily denied him.

Haaland and substitute striker Omar Marmoush may have struck to complete City's turnaround – both of whom were set up by O'Reilly – but once again, Foden didn't make enough impact in the final third.

Foden's woeful effort on goal proved to be the high point of another game to forget for the 24-year-old, who was hooked for Jack Grealish in the 69th minute after Marmoush had squeezed home the winner.

Many City fans seemingly got their wish when Foden's number came up on the touchline, with several taking to social media to demand that their "cooked" midfielder was the next player withdrawn.

That sentiment continued apace after Foden rolled his meek shot into Kepa's gloves, and while City fans noted a lack of confidence in front of goal, it remains to be seen where their number 47 goes from here.
