Man City are plotting deals to sign German superstar duo Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that Pep Guardiola's side are lining up the two big-name stars as potential replacements for Kevin de Bruyne.

The 33-year-old attacking midfielder is in the final year of his contract at the Etihad and, as things stand, will be allowed to discuss a move abroad from January onwards.

This comes amid growing interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia as well as heavily-backed MLS newcomers San Diego FC, who want to make a statement signing.

Football Insider revealed on 2 November that City are set to step up their efforts to sign a high-profile replacement for the midfielder, with the Bundesliga stars at the top of their list.

Musiala and Wirtz, both 21 years old, have attracted interest in elite sides from across Europe including Real Madrid, and City are expected to push hard to convince them to move to England.

The former is said to have been on their radar for a long time, and sources say they will do "everything they possibly can" to bring him to the Etihad.

Man City plot moves to sign Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz

Wirtz and Musiala starred for Germany at Euro 2024, and have continued their impressive performances into the Bundesliga season so far.

The former has scored seven goals and provided one assist in 15 appearances so far this season, off the back of winning the league's Player of the Year award last time out.

The latter, meanwhile, has scored seven and set up four in 12 appearances, and has been heavily linked with a return to England five years after leaving Chelsea.

Musiala's contract with Bayern Munich is set to run until 2026, but there is a growing belief that a deal could be available in the summer when he will have just one year left.

As a result, he has emerged at City's top target should De Bruyne's contract be allowed to expire amid increasing concerns about his recent injury record.

Wirtz, meanwhile, remains on their list of targets but is considered slightly less likely due to the interest from Bayern, who want the German superstar to become their latest poach from a domestic rival to prove their dominance.
