Manchester United could have a big decision to make regarding Tyrell Malacia as details have emerged over his future.

Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and has made 47 Appearances for the club.

He was the first arrival of the Erik ten Hag era at the club and cost United around £15million.

A knee injury hampered the 25-year-olds start to last season and he was loaned out to PSV in January and helped the Dutch club win the Eredivisie title.

United struggling to sell Malacia

It was reported in May that United had made a decision to sell Malacia this summer, however The Athletic now report that the club may be forced to keep the left-back.

United are “struggling to drum up suitors” for the Dutchman despite his title winning endeavours at PSV.

That could be a problem for Amorim as the club insist on selling players before spending.

The club received no transfer fees for letting Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans leave at the end of their contracts, and have not sold any players so far this window.

However, Amorim has spent £62.5m on Matheus Cunha from Wolves and wants to sign either Bryan Mbeumo or Viktor Gyokeres.

Left-back among concerns for Amorim

Football Insider verdict

Players like Malacia are free to leave United this summer and the defender has struggled to nail down a position in the starting line-up since joining the club.

Left-back is an area of concern for Amorim with Luke Shaw’s injury problems.

Diogo Dalot and Lindelof filled in for the injured duo on occasions last season, but with the latter now departed, Amorim needs another option.

The Portuguese’s three at the back system also depends on wing-backs rather than full-backs, so Amorim is wanting a specific type of player for his system.

Amorim already has plenty of positions to fill so selling Malacia to help fund new signings is key.

United though need to move fast otherwise they will miss out on their top targets of Mbeumo and Gyokeres with Spurs and Arsenal circulating.

A tough start to next season could instantly put Amorim under pressure, so bringing in new signings as quickly as possible could also be beneficial.
