Man United news: Robinson lambasts 'stupid' 27-year-old after Jadon Sancho controversy spotted 'at the game'
Paul Robinson has slammed Man United midfielder Bruno Fernandes for his "stupid" penalty technique.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper is "baffled" by the 27-year-old's run-up that "doesn't put goalkeepers off."
Man United were awarded a penalty in the second half of their 3-1 loss at Arsenal after Nuno Tavares was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.
As shown on BT Sport (23 April), Fernandes stepped forward a missed the penalty for the visitors.
Robinson, who was in attendance at the Emirates, claimed Jadon Sancho initially wanted to take the spot-kick.
"I was there at the game and Jadon Sancho picked the ball up immediately," he told Football Insider's Dylan Childs.
'Scott McTominay had to come over and take the ball off him. It looked to me as if Sancho wanted to take the penalty but McTominay wanted Bruno Fernandes to.
"You question the organisation before the game. Who has the authority to do what during the match?
"I don't get the stupid run up that Fernandes does either. The guy can strike a football so well. He can easily strike a ball well from 12 yards.
"These stupid run-ups don't put goalkeepers off. As a goalkeeper you have a pre-conceived idea of where they are going to go. You have done your research and base the way you're diving from that. The technique baffles me."
