Man United are keeping close tabs on Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, sources have told Football Insider.

The Argentine, 30, is on the radar of the Premier League giants amid doubts over David de Gea's long-term future.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season although United have the option to extend the deal for a further 12 months.

Martinez is highly rated by United's recruitment team and is regarded as one of the best keepers in the Premier League.

He has made a big impact at Villa since signing in the summer of 2020 for an initial £17million rising to £20m.

Villa now value the keeper at more than double that sum - around £45m - after tying him to a new contract in January of this year.

Man United let Dean Henderson leave the club on loan to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2022 and replaced him with the loan signing of Martin Dubravka from Newcastle.

However, while Henderson has thrived at the City Ground, not missing a minute of Premier League action this season, Dubravka is yet to make his Red Devils debut.

De Gea dropped two clangers as Man United slumped to a 4-0 defeat away at Brentford on 13 August, prompting questions over his future.

Since that defeat, Man United have won four Premier League games in a row and also registered their first European win of the season over Sheriff on 15 September.

De Gea has made 494 total appearances for the Red Devils after he joined the club in June 2011 from Atletico Madrid.

Martinez remains Aston Villa's first-choice stopper, starting every Premier League game for his side this season.
