Man United will contact Ipswich about Kieran McKenna as they step up plans to replace Erik ten Hag, sources tell Football Insider.

The 2023-24 Championship runners-up face a major battle to hold on to their manager beyond this summer despite achieving automatic promotion.

Man United are keen on Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna

Sources say McKenna is regarded as "a future Man United manager" by senior figures at Old Trafford.

The Northern Irishman previously worked at United as an assistant to Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralph Rangnick before landing the top job with the Tractor Boys in 2021.

Since then, his reputation has continued to grow as one of the most highly-regarded young bosses in the country, leading Ipswich to back-to-back promotions.

It is said that United officials have been impressed not only by the performances on the pitch but also by his attitude and character.

A summer of upheaval at Man United following the partial takeover by Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS could see a change of manager.

The club are keen on appointing a head coach, with his focus solely on footballing matters while recruitment will be left to the club's sporting director and recruitment team.
