Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite would be an ideal signing for Man United to replace Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans

Jarrad Branthwaite would be an "incredible" signing for Man United as they look to rebuild under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed that the Red Devils' transition will take time, but the highly regarded Everton centre-back would be an ideal start.

Man United's transfer policy is expected to shift significantly now Ratcliffe, who controls footballing operations, is at the club.

Robinson admitted that United will have to suffer "a bit more pain" before they return to their former glory, but tipped Branthwaite to make a real impact.

"There's a huge transition at Man United at the moment, but it will happen slowly under Ratcliffe," he told Football Insider.

"They're going to have to go through a bit more pain to get where they want to be and where they should be.

"But Branthwaite would be an incredible start to that as we've seen his quality this season.

"Unfortunately for Everton, they're in a situation where some of their best players are going to have to be easy pickings for some of the bigger clubs because of their finances.

"Man United fans have not expected to be playing with Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire this season, so defensive recruitment and replacements for them are needed.

"Branthwaite would certainly be a step in the right direction."
