Man United "would love to sign" Newcastle star Alexander Isak as they step up their efforts to sign a new striker, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club's most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that United currently ack the pull or financial muscle to seal such a deal.

Isak has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle as a result of their ongoing financial difficulties which mean they may have to raise money through player sales.

The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have shown an interested, while United also admire him, but their interest is not thought to be any more than an appreciation of his quality.

The former chief scout also raised questions about the Red Devils' ability to convince the forward to move to Old Trafford rather than St James' Park or the Emirates.

Alexander Isak to Man United dismissed by Old Trafford insider

Isak is widely recognised as one of the best forwards in the Premier League thanks to his 34 goals in 48 league games since the start of the 2023-24 season.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked with the likes of West Ham, Tottenham and Aston Villa, has insisted that he would be the ideal man for United, but any suggestion of a deal would be farfetched.

"Man United would love to sign Isak," he told Football Insider.

"He would be an asset to any club in the country.

"Thinking about what they need from a striker, he brings all of the tools to the table. He's pacey, can run in behind, holds the ball up, scores goals on the floor, in the air, one-on-ones, the lot.

"I don't think it's possible though, for a number of reasons, and I don't think the interest is any deeper than recognising him as one of the top strikers in the country.

"They don't have the ability to get that deal done financially, and whether they could attract him to leave Newcastle is questionable too.

"Especially if Newcastle qualify for European football, and then you think the likes of Arsenal are interested so they're going to be ahead of United too."
