Crystal Palace will soon open contract talks with Liverpool and Newcastle target Marc Guehi, sources have told Football Insider.

The centre-back, 24, remained at Palace past the transfer deadline on Friday (30 August) despite strong interest from the Magpies.

Football Insider first revealed on 17 August that Eddie Howe’s side would have to pay a fee in excess of £70million for the defender – and Palace stood firm with their demand.

Liverpool are also long-term admirers of Guehi and are expected to step up their pursuit of a potential Virgil van Dijk successor in future windows.

But Palace will open talks with Guehi in the coming weeks as they attempt to deal interested clubs a big blow.

Sources say the club captain is still seen as a "huge part of the project" and they are keen to tie him down for the long-term.

The England international is currently under contract at Selhurst Park until June 2026.

He has boosted his value in the last year after becoming a regular for the Three Lions, including at Euro 2024 - where Gareth Southgate's side were beaten finalists.

Guehi has started and played 90 minutes in all four of Palace's games so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

The 24-year-old joined the Croydon club from Chelsea three years ago and has made 115 appearances for the Eagles.
