McAvennie drops 'massive' Rangers claim after Jack Butland latest

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is "saying all the right things".

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted Butland will need to work hard to preserve his positive rapport with the fans.

The Gers signed the 30-year-old this summer following the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Allan McGregor after the expiration of his contract.

Butland put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Light Blues.

Speaking to BBC Sport (5 July), the former England international said he is "excited" by the demands of being a Rangers player.

Butland also hailed his predecessor Allan McGregor as well as legendary Gers shot-stopper Andy Goram.

McAvennie insisted Butland has a lot to live up to at Ibrox.

"I think he is a decent keeper but he has not played much recently," he told Football Insider.

"But the fans do not care if you have not played for three months you have to be ready. If you go in goals for Rangers you have to pull off worldies because that is what the last keepers he was talking about did.

"He is saying all the right things, talking about Andy Goram and Allan McGregor.

"He will enjoy it because it is a massive club and he will enjoy his rapport with the fans as long as he does well.

"There is the other side that if you do not do well enough they let you know. You will be made very welcome or there will be a bus outside for you."
