McAvennie in awe of new thing he's spotted from Morelos at Rangers
Frank McAvennie has heaped praise on the movement of Alfredo Morelos after Rangers beat Livingston 1-0 on Wednesday night.
The former Celtic and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 24-year-old has improved this season and is "bringing a lot more to the table than just goals".
Morelos put the Light Blues within touching distance of the Scottish Premiership title with an 87th minute winner at Almondvale yesterday.
It was El Bufalo's 14th goal in 34 appearances across all competitions this season - he also has 12 assists to his name in that time.
McAvennie compared Morelos to Jermain Defoe and claimed the Colombian striker offers Steven Gerrard's side much more.
"I have always said that he is a great striker," he told Football Insider.
"The only thing he needs to be careful with is his temperament. You cannot fault the boy for his talents.
"I have noticed the new thing is that he is moving a lot more now and coming deeper. He is bringing a lot more to the table than just goals.
"He gives the team confidence when he plays.
"Defoe is an out-and-out goalscorer. He is superb but Morelos gives you much more than that."
Morelos was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in the first half after Livingston goalkeeper Max Stryjek tripped him in the box.
The controversial incident, which saw the centre-forward booked for simulation, incensed Gers manager Steven Gerrard and he was sent off for his protests at half time.
