Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has claimed Erling Haaland will want to play every game possible for Man City this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the 22-year-old "wants to break every record going".

Haaland scored a hattrick in the 6-3 win over Man United on Sunday (2 October) and became the first Premier League player to score three successive home hattricks.

The club are desperate to avoid a repeat of the injuries that plagued him at Borussia Dortmund.

The Norway international has started every game for the Sky Blues so far this season and has already accumulated 824 minutes of game time.

Guardiola and his backroom staff will rest and rotate Haaland at opportune times during the season.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the latest, McAvennie said: "If they try and manage his game time, I can tell you he will be furious and saying 'that's rubbish'.

"Just looking at him you can tell he wants to play every game. He looks to me as if he wants to break every record going. And he has got the capability to do that.

"This could be Pep’s weapon because he is the only thing they were missing, an outstanding goalscorer. Since [Sergio] Aguero left they have not had that. They have been playing false nines and all that nonsense. He has brought the centre-forward straight back in to the limelight and I just think he is going to break every record going.

"I do not think they will be managing his game because when he is fit he will want to play."
