Celtic loanees Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jonjoe Kenny will all return to their parent clubs at the end of the season, according to Frank McAvennie.
The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said there needs to be a "clean slate" for whoever is appointed to be Neil Lennon's successor this year.
Celtic announced on Wednesday that Lennon had resigned from his position as manager after a turbulent season both on and off the pitch.
The search for a successor has begun with John Kennedy, currently caretaker boss, the early favourite with the bookmakers.
Football Insider understands Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy is on the club's shortlist having made an instant impact in Wales this season.
McAvennie believes there will be a clear out at Paradise this summer regardless of who is appointed.
"I think there needs to be a clear out," he told Football Insider.
"Whoever comes in, they need to start off on a clean slate.
"I know there is four players on loan and I expect them all to go back. Kenny, Laxalt, Duffy and Elyounoussi - they will go back. They will not be there next season."
Speaking on Celtic’s loan players prior to his exit, Lennon said: “Obviously loan players will be going back.
“Whether we investigate loaning them again is a discussion for the summer but there will be changes in the summer, there is no question of that.”
