McAvennie: This is what McGregor said to Celtic huddle after 'Brilliant' win

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie was blown away by what he saw from Callum McGregor after Celtic beat Dundee at the weekend.

The Parkhead icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, loved what he saw at the weekend.

McGregor brought his teammates into a huddle after the Hoops smashed Dundee 6-0 on Sunday.

The win was the first in the league for Ange Postecoglou and the second positive result in as many games for the club.

It was a much-needed victory and the first time Celtic have dominated a game in front of a decent crowd at Parkhead for well over a year.

McAvennie believes he knows what McGregor said to his teammates while in the huddle.

"I was impressed with McGregor," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"At the end of the game he got everyone in a huddle and laid down the law.

"I would imagine he said 'that's the way we play, that's the standard now'.

"That's what we need every time we step out onto the pitch. It was brilliant.

"We need to be quicker, there is the chance to score a lot of goals with Kyogo here.

"He has lightning pace and I'm so impressed with him.

"We need leaders on the pitch and it was great to see, I'm very happy.

"I'm much happier than I was last week anyway."

Celtic face a crunch clash against Jablonec in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Hoops take a 4-2 lead into the game after last week's first leg in the Czech Republic.
