Former Leeds striker Michael Bridges has delivered his verdict on the new Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom, saying he is "delighted" at his appointment. Bridges said that Heckingbottom has done "great things with Barnsley" and that he has "developed the younger players" since he got into management. He delivered the message on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday morning, adding "Good luck mate with Leeds #MOT".

Heckingbottom joins Leeds despite just signing a new contract with Barnsley, who are currently 21st in the Championship. In a statement released on their official Twitter page, they said they were "shocked" at his decision to leave. Former Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen was sacked on Sunday night after a terrible run of results had left his side stranded outside the play-off places. Heckingbottom and his new backroom team of three staff will be tasked with getting the club back into the Premier League. Heckingbottom has an 18-month contract so if all goes well he should get two shots at the ultimate prize. In other Leeds news,
