Michael Owen has claimed that Tottenham are likely to axe Vincent Janssen for Sunday's crunch clash against Manchester City.

The former England striker has said he "would not be surprised" if the Dutch striker was axed even though Harry Kane will be sidelined through injury.

Janssen, who has scored only one goal for Spurs since his £18million move from AZ Alkmaar, has emerged as a regular after starting each of the last three matches that Kane has missed due to ankle ligament damage.

But Owen believes Mauricio Pochettino could be willing to select a starting XI that does not include an authentic spearhead for Sunday's Premier League showdown at White Hart Lane.

Heung-Min Son scored Tottenham’s winner as they claimed a 1-0 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow in midweek as he extended a spell of form that now includes five goals from his five matches this season.

Owen is tipping the South Korean to find the net once again against the Premier League leaders.

Writing in his column for Bet Victor, Owen said: “The top two at the start of the weekend lock horns at White Hart Lane with Kevin de Bruyne and Harry Kane significant absentees.

“Son Heung-Min has been in cracking form for Spurs of late and it would not surprise me if Mauricio Pochettino started with Son down the middle given he looked a real threat when switched to a more central position late on in Moscow.

“Do also make a note of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, who also took the eye when coming on in Russia for a late cameo.”

Tottenham are preparing to welcome Pep Guardiola's to north London as the two top teams in the table go head to head in north London.

Spurs have made a strong start to the new campaign and head into Sunday’s fixture on the back of a landmark win at CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.
