Exclusive: Danny Mills shares West Ham manager reveal after private Karren Brady chat
Danny Mills has revealed how West Ham director Karren Brady confided in him that the club had placed their faith in Manuel Pellegrini because of the style of football he oversees.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England defender claimed there is nonetheless a limit to how long vice-chairman Brady and the rest of the board will stick by the Chilean.
Mills suggested the "axe will fall" soon for Pellegrini, who was appointed to succeed David Moyes in the summer of last year, if results don't turn around.
West Ham secured a memorable 1-0 win over Chelsea last Saturday but they have lost six of their last eight league matches, including Wednesday's 2-0 loss at Wolves.
"I spoke to Karren Brady ahead of the season at an event I was at, and she was saying they were looking to play attacking football and that the manager had brought a new style of football to the club, and that’s what they wanted to go with," Mills told Football Insider.
“And everything was very very positive, they then got walloped by Man City, which can happen to the best of teams, but off the back of that, you’d have to say he is an interesting character as he isn’t outspoken and his English is broken from time to time.
“I thought he was brilliant in his press conference the other day, by saying ‘I’m surprised I’m still here’, so he obviously has a sense of humour about it.
“He has a fabulous track record, maybe that’s working with slightly better players, he knows he is under pressure and if he doesn’t turn results around, he knows the axe will fall."
Pellegrini is expected to remain at the helm for the Hammers' league trip to Southampton on Saturday.
Defeat to the 17th-placed side in the division could spell the end for the Chilean, whose team are 15th with 16 points.
