Mohamed Salah: This may now be only 'sticking point' in Liverpool talks after latest twist - pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested that contract length is the big "sticking point" in negotiations between Liverpool and Mohamed Salah.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Reds may want to hand the 29-year-old a shorter deal than he is looking for.
Speaking to Four Four Two last week (22 April), Salah, whose current terms expire next summer, insisted "everything is not about the money" in negotiations.
He insisted he wants to remain at Liverpool and that he expects to be at Anfield next season regardless of his contract situation.
As detailed by Football Insider this month (9 April), Liverpool chiefs were confident of making a breakthrough in talks, with Salah willing to compromise on his £500,000-a-week wage demands.
Hutton suggested the only disagreement must be how long the deal will run for.
Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "If he's saying it's not only money, it can only be the length for me. It's one or the other.
"If it's not money, that can be the only thing. It's quite as simple as that.
"Is he looking for a five-year contract to take him to 35? Are they just giving him a two-year contract?
"I mean, there's obviously sticking points within negotiations, but those are your two main things; how much are you getting paid a week and what's the length of that contract?"
Salah signed his current deal back in 2018, a year after joining the Reds.
The likes of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are also out of contract next summer.
