David Moyes has been targeted by Everton and West Ham as they step up their searches to appoint a new manager, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League crisis clubs have both held boardroom talks in the last 24 hours about the positions of their under-fire bosses Marco Silva and Manuel Pellegrini.

Sources from both clubs have told Football Insider they have made preliminary contact with their former manager Moyes to assess his interest taking the reins.

The 56-year-old Scot's stance is he would prefer to return to Everton, who he managed with such success for 11 years, than West Ham, where he had less than a season at the helm.

Moyes is itching for a return to management after biding his time for a position since his spell in charge of the London club ended when his six-month contract expired in May of last year.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, longstanding Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has championed Moyes to take over for a second spell at Goodison Park.

Other contenders include Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, Manchester City number two Mikel Arteta and Mark Hughes.

West Ham have also put out feelers for Moyes as they look for a proven Premier League manager to arrest the team's slump.

The Hammers have dropped to 17th in the table after losing five of their last six Premier League matches.

Everton are faring little better, with Saturday's home defeat to Norwich City leaving them in 16th, just a point and one place above the London club.
