Jamie Murphy is set to head out of Rangers in January after failing to win back his place in the team, Football Insider understands.

The winger, 30, has been reduced to just two substitute appearances this season and not made a single start for Steven Gerrard's side in the 16 months since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on Kilmarnock's plastic pitch.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are ready to listen to offers for Murphy in the upcoming transfer window.

He may go out on loan to another Scottish Premiership club, although there is a possibility he could leave Rangers for good.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in September that Gerrard and his coaching staff feared Murphy would not be able to start a game until after Christmas at the earliest as he continues his rehabilitation.

That has proved to be the case, with the wide man still waiting for his first Light Blues start of the campaign.

Murphy has been unable to convince Gerrard that he has been able to recover the zip and turn of speed that made him a key player in his first half-season at Ibrox.

The left-winger has not started a single game all season and has failed to even make a matchday squad in the last two months.

His only two appearances came as a sub in SPL maulings of Hamilton Academicals and Ross County in October.

The two-times Scotland international is behind not only Ryan Kent in the wide attacking pecking order, but also the likes of Sheyi Ojo, Joe Aribo, Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones.

Murphy signed from Brighton in January of last year on an initial loan that was subsequently converted into a £1million permanent deal.

He has an impressive record for the club, scoring six goals and providing 13 assists from 29 appearances.
