Neil Redfearn: This is what was lacking in Leeds attack during defeat v Derby

Neil Redfearn believes that Leeds United are lacking shape and momentum in their attack after they suffered yet another loss at the hands of Derby on Tuesday night.

The Whites squandered an early lead to lose 2-1 to the Rams at Elland Road as they sunk to a fifth defeat in their last six Championship outings.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga got United off to a good start by finishing neatly past Scott Carson in the opening phases of the game, but after that, Thomas Christiansen's men failed to make the most of having the best of the play, allowing Derby to come into the game more after the hour mark before Sam Winnall struck a brace to earn his side three points.

Ex-Leeds manager Redfearn believes that the attacking side to the squad is perhaps the biggest problem and is now urging players from other positions to start helping Lasogga chip in with more goals.

"I look at the whole package going forward, whether it's a little bit disjointed or whether it lacks a little bit of shape," he said as shown on Radio Yorkshire's official YouTube account.

"It just lacks a little bit of momentum as well.

"It's important the midfield players weigh in with a goal or two and centre-halves get forward and head corners in, all that amounts to your attacking threat."

During Leeds' poor run of league form, that started in September, they have experienced difficulties at both ends of the pitch, and it seems that once one issue is sorted then the other may follow suit.

After a run of six clean sheets before the mid-September loss at Millwall, Leeds' defence have only secured one shut-out since and have also only scored more than one goal in a game on two occasions after the New Den defeat.

With the Whites sixth in the Championship standings, it has still been their best start to a season in eight years.
