Newcastle are set to sign Danish teenage sensation Elias Frtijof Sorensen from HB Koge, according to a reliable journalist.

The Chronicle chief sports writer Lee Ryder has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the youngster is set to sign for the Magpies and it is thought the deal will be announced soon.

Sorensen, 16, broke a record at HB Kobe in May when he became the Danish club's youngest-ever debutant with his substitute appearance in a first division match against Silkeborg.

Danish publication Bold.dk  claim the teen spent the early parts of the summer training with Rafa Benitez's side and impressed enough to earn a move to Tyneside.

The report also cites quotes from HB Køge sporting director Per Rud, who confirms Newcastle's interest.

“It is true that we are still talking to Newcastle, and we have had several great conversations with them, and it is likely to end up with a transfer.

“As with everything else in this world, I cannot say anything with certainty until it is fully in place, and the ends are not achieved together yet. But I'd be lying if I said that there isn’t some truth, for it is there,” said Rud.

The title-favourites didn't get their charge to promotion up and running on their opening-day defeat to Fulham, but will be looking to register their first three points of the summer this weekend where they are at home to Huddersfield.
