Newcastle United are 'anxiously waiting' to see if any clubs decide to activate the £100million release clause in Bruno Guimaraes’ contract before 30 June.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Newcastle have had fears they could lose some of their best players hanging over them for the past six months.

There is expected to be interest in both Brazilian midfielder Guimaraes and star striker Alexander Isak once the transfer window reopens following their impressive seasons at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe revealed Guimaraes has a £100million release clause that will expire on 30 June, meaning it will take a significant bid for him to leave Tyneside in the coming weeks.

The 26-year-old is under contract until 2028 after signing a new deal last October.

Bruno Guimaraes could stay at Newcastle despite release clause

Speculation around Guimaraes’ future ramped up after he was seen waving to the Newcastle fans after their 4-2 victory over Brentford on the final day of the season.

The Brazilian played 50 times across all competitions last season, starting in 48 of those outings as he registered seven goals and 10 assists.

Arsenal, Man City and PSG are believed to have shown a strong interest in signing Guimaraes on the back of his impressive campaign.
