Newcastle United fans have been left raging by the latest twist in their race to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi before 31 August.

The centre-back started for Palace in their final pre-season friendly fixture at Selhurst Park as the Eagles continue to plan for the season with Guehi in a key role.

He captained the side and played 62 minutes before he was substituted off alongside a host of changes, but his involvement was a key indicator that no deal is close.

This is despite early suggestions that Eddie Howe's side were closing in on a deal.

As a result, fans have been left fuming as many believe they will now miss out on a deal for the England star, stating they have waited too long to get it over the line.

Newcastle are in desperate need of a new centre-back and have prioritised Guehi as their number-one target, with talks still ongoing.

Football Insider revealed on 9 August that rival clubs are plotting to hijack their move if they cannot reach an agreement with Palace soon.
