Odds slashed: Newcastle 5/6 favourites to sign left midfielder

The odds have been slashed on Newcastle United signing midfielder Sam Clucas from Hull City this summer, according to bookmakers.

Sky Bet priced the north-east giants at 5/6 on Thursday night to land Clucas, 26, before the August transfer window cut-off.

Newcastle are the landslide favourites to secure the signature of the left winger, with Swansea (18/1), Leicester, Stoke and West Brom (all 22/1) relatively distantly priced.

The odds have been slashed from last month, when Clucas was 5/2 to make the switch from the KCOM Stadium to St James' Park with SkyBet..

Clucas put in some good performances for Hull last season, although his three goals and one assist from 37 appearances weren't enough to save his side from the drop.

Newcastle have been strongly linked with a move for the wide man as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the Premier League kick-off next week.

Clucas joined Hull from Chesterfield in the summer of 2015 and has a contract with the Championship club that runs until 2019.
