Newcastle United will be confident of keeping captain Bruno Guimaraes if they qualify for the Champions League, sources have told Football Insider.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the midfielder, 27, in recent days - but it is believed Mikel Arteta's side will find a deal too hard to do.

Sources say Newcastle will do "everything they can" to keep Guimaraes at St James' Park.

However, it is believed "question marks" will arise over his long-term future if the Magpies fail to qualify for next season's Champions League and strong offers arrive in the summer window.

Newcastle could lose Guimaraes without Champions League qualification

Newcastle have struggled to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in recent years but have staved off interest in the likes of Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Eddie Howe's side could be forced to cash in on one of their top assets in the off-season if they can't secure participation in the money-spinning new Champions League format.

Guimaraes, who is under contract at Newcastle until June 2028, stands to make the Magpies a huge profit after arriving for £40million in January 2022.

The former Lyon star captained Howe's side to League Cup glory on Sunday (16 March) and has made 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

He has made 144 total appearances for Newcastle since arriving on Tyneside.

Newcastle set sights on winger signing

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed earlier this month (8 March) that Newcastle are interested in signing Como winger Assane Diao in the summer transfer window.

A new right-winger is now top of Eddie Howe’s list of targets this summer as the Magpies look to upgrade on Jacob Murphy following the sale of Miguel Almiron.

Newcastle will prioritise the signing of a winger after missing out on deals in the mid-season window.
