Newcastle line up free agent swoop for Jonathan David - sources
Newcastle United are strong admirers of Lille forward Jonathan David, sources have told Football Insider.
The 24-year-old has been in red-hot form for the Ligue 1 side this term and is attracting big interest from the Premier League and beyond.
David is set to become a free agent next summer and can sign a pre-contract agreement with English clubs in January.
Eddie Howe's striking options are currently depleted with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson sidelined through injury.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (30 September) that Newcastle will look to sign a replacement for Wilson before letting him leave in January.
Fulham and Brentford are both keen on potential swoops for the 33-year-old.
Newcastle set sights on David deal in January
David has already hit seven goals and contributed two assists in 11 appearances for Lille this term.
The forward also bagged a goal and assist in a 2-1 win for Canada over the United States earlier this month.
He has been prolific ever since joining Lille from Gent in 2020, scoring 91 goals in 194 games for the French club.
Newcastle's top scorer last season was Sweden international Isak, who hit 25 goals in 40 games.
The Magpies have lost just once in the 2024-25 campaign and sit seventh in the Premier League table.
