Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has been left of the club's pre-season tour to Ireland as speculation about his future hots up.

Football Insider reported on Wednesday that Krul’s possible transfer to Everton was dead in the water.

But Newcastle hinted at a new development behind the scenes as they posted the 26-man tour squad on their website, and Krul was omitted.

New signings Jesus Gamez, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle are included as are goalkeeper trio Matz Sels, Rob Elliot and Paul Woolston.

Krul has been recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament that kept him sidelined for most of the 2015-16 season, so that could be the reason he hasn't travelled.

However, the Dutchman was said to be ahead of Elliot in his rehabilitation and the latter has been included in the squad of manager Rafael Benitez.

Krul, 28, has spent his entire senior career at Newcastle, apart from two loan spells as a youngster and has made 185 appearances for the Magpies club.

A number of Premier League outfits are said to be interested in Krul, including Everton whose new manager Ronald Koeman wishes to team up with his fellow Dutchman.

Krul has also been linked to Crystal Palace, where former manager Alan Pardew was hoping to reunite himself with the 2010 World Cup semi-finalist.

In other Newcastle news, they are set to table their third bid for a defender and Benitez hopes this will seal the deal.
